Gemstone Worth 1 Million Euros Found in Romania

A gemstone found by a grandmother in Romania.--

INTERNATIONAL, RBTVDISWAY.ID – Many unexpected events turn out to be extraordinary blessings. For example, some people find treasure by accident.

There's even an interesting story: a grandmother owned a doorstop stone worth 17 billion Rupiah. What's even more interesting is that the grandmother had no idea that the doorstop stone in her house was the most sought-after treasure in the world.

The grandmother found the 3.5 kg stone at the bottom of a river in southeastern Romania. Unaware of its true value, she took it home and used it to prop up her door.

It was later discovered that the stone was the largest undamaged piece of amber in the world. The doorstop stone is estimated to be worth 1 million Euros, or around 17 billion Rupiah.

Amber is tree resin that has hardened and become a gemstone over millions of years.

In Romania, this amber is known as 'rumanite' and is found abundantly around the village of Colti, especially along the banks of the Buzau River. Amber has been mined since the 1920s and is renowned for its rich and varied reddish hues.

The grandmother who discovered this piece of rumanite lived in Colti. The stone was inconspicuous and remained unnoticed, even by jewel thieves who might have broken into her house.

After her death in 1991, relatives who inherited her home suspected the stone might be more than just a doorstop.

After further examination, the amber was assessed by experts from the Historical Museum in Krakow, Poland. The stone was estimated to be between 38 and 70 million years old.

"This discovery is of great importance, both scientifically and for the museum," said Daniel Costache, Director of the Buzau County Museum.

The stone is now classified as a Romanian national treasure and has been housed at the Buzau County Museum since 2022.

This discovery is similar to a case in Michigan, United States, where a man kept a meteorite as a doorstop for years.
