INDONESIA, RBTVDISWAY.ID - Indonesia is the world's largest palm oil producer, contributing nearly 47 million tons of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) in 2023, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

This massive production is spread across various provinces, but is largely concentrated in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

10 Largest Palm Oil Producing Regions in Indonesia

1. Riau

Riau Province ranked as the largest palm oil producer in Indonesia in 2023.

Palm oil production in Riau reached 8.79 million tons, equivalent to 18.7% of the total national production of 46.99 million tons.

The plantation area in this province is estimated at 3.40 million hectares, or approximately 21.36% of the total national palm oil plantation area.

Its flat geography, coupled with the support of road and port infrastructure, makes Riau a leading producer of palm oil.

2. Central Kalimantan

Central Kalimantan is in second place, producing 8.55 million tons of palm oil in 2023, approximately 18.2% of the national total.

The plantation area in Central Kalimantan covers approximately 2.04 million hectares. East Barito and West Kotawaringin Regencies are the main centers, with thick peat soils ideal for oil palm cultivation.

Although the topography is largely lowland, the main challenge is transportation infrastructure to the interior.
