INTERNATIONAL, RBTVDISWAY.ID – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) recorded that Indonesia's coal production from January to September 2025 reached 584.168 million tons.
This figure falls short of this year's production target of 739.674 million tons.
"The trend from January to September seems to be a decline in production, with a 7.4 percent year-on-year (yoy) decline as of September compared to 2024," said Surya Herjuna, Director of Coal Business Development at the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, at the 2nd Coalindo Coal Conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

According to data detailed by Surya, coal production for the full year in 2024 reached 836.1 million tons. This figure has already exceeded the target of 710 million tons.
Export realization from January to September 2025 was 374.415 million tons with a value of US$21.76 billion. In 2024, full-year export realization reached 555.34 million tons with a value of US$37.77 billion.
"If we look at the price, the figures continue to fluctuate, and it's actually not optimal," said Surya.
In terms of exports, Surya predicts a decline of around 20-30 million tons compared to 2024.

To increase this, the government wants to increase exports to the Philippines, in addition to the most dominant destinations such as India and China.
Surya stated that the decline in exports does not mean that Indonesian coal is unsellable. "The economy is indeed affected," he said.
Furthermore, the realization of the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) in 2025 was 166.78 million tons. This figure falls short of this year's target of 239.67 million tons.
