Hope for HIV/AIDS Sufferers Globally: 7 People Have Been Cured
Good news, there are already people who have recovered from HIV AIDS.--
The second person reported to be cured of HIV in 2019 was Adam Castillejo. He was undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma (a cancer of the lymph nodes) and required a stem cell transplant.
At the time, his donor also had natural immunity to HIV, which resulted in Adam Castillejo's CD4 cells lacking the CCR5 receptor.
He stopped taking ARVs 16 months after the transplant and a year later, he went public and was declared HIV-cured.
The COVID pandemic prevented him from meeting Timothy Ray Brown, but they spoke by phone before he died. Five years later, after stopping ARVs, he is still HIV-free.

3. The Düsseldorf Patient – Marc Franke
Marc Franke actually underwent a transplant before Adam Castillejo. He had leukemia and received a stem cell transplant from someone immune to HIV in 2013.
However, he was more cautious and continued taking ARVs until November 2018, when he completely stopped taking them.
She was declared HIV-free in 2019, at the same time as Adam Castillejo, and four years later, in February 2023, doctors declared her completely cured of HIV.
Marc Franke also stated that he had spoken with his donor and remained in contact with other cured people with HIV.
4. The New York Patient
Her name remains confidential, but she is the first woman to be cured of HIV.
Professor Yvonne Bryson told the story of this patient in February 2022, at which point she had been off ARVs for 14 months and had no HIV virus detected.
In 2017, the patient underwent a haplo-cord blood transplant from a donor with the rare CCR5-delta-32 gene. She underwent the transplant to treat leukemia and is now declared HIV-cured.
