Sidihoni, Lake Above Lake in North Sumatra Indonesia

The Appeal of Lake Sidihoni

The main uniqueness of Lake Sidihoni is its location above another lake, Lake Toba. This has earned Sidihoni the nickname “Lake Above the Lake.”

According to the same source, Lake Sidihoni is considered to be above Lake Toba because it is located on Samosir Island at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level. 

Meanwhile, Lake Toba is located at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level.

Lake Sidihoni covers an area of approximately 5 hectares. Although it is much smaller than Lake Toba, the lake is quite deep, so visitors are not allowed to swim here.

Lake Sidihoni is also a quiet and uncrowded natural tourist attraction. Visitors can camp here because the area is spacious with sloping ground. 

The area around the lake is also safe because it is close to residential areas and there are no wild animals in the surrounding hills.

For sunset and sunrise enthusiasts, this place is a must-visit. Both sunsets and sunrises can be seen perfectly because the lake stretches from west to east.

It is recommended to visit Lake Sidihoni in the morning and evening because the lake is located on high hills with few trees around it. This makes the lake very hot during the day.
