How to Clean Your Own Air Conditioner at Home, Easy and Quick
You can wash the AC yourself at home.--
- Clean the entire surface with a feather duster or vacuum cleaner.
- Wipe with a damp cloth to remove any remaining dust.
- Wipe with a dry cloth to remove any remaining stains.
- Clean the filter.
- Remove the AC filter according to the instructions in the manual.
- Vacuum any dust stuck to the filter.
- Wash the filter with water (you can also soak it in water), then rinse and dry it.
- Clean the evaporator blades.
- Cover the floor and walls near the AC unit to avoid splashes of water while cleaning the evaporator. Also, have a bucket ready to catch the water.
- Spray cleaning fluid onto the AC blades to clean the evaporator. Make sure the spray hits the target and not other components.
- Clean the outdoor unit.
- Remove any dust stuck to the cooling grilles with an old toothbrush or paintbrush.
- Spray water firmly onto the AC grilles from the front without removing the fan. Spray from the fan openings forward and to the left—if you spray too far to the right, it could hit the box-shaped compressor. Continue spraying until the water is clean.
- Install the plastic grille protecting the fan and dry the exterior with a dry cloth.
Your AC cleaning job is now complete. It wasn't that difficult, was it? It's even easier if your AC is equipped with a self-cleaning feature that can clean itself automatically.
