Nusa Penida Bali Indonesia, An Exotic Paradise on Earth

The beauty of Nusa Penida, a shame to miss--

INDONESIA, RBTVDISWAY.ID - Nusa Penida often appears on social media timelines as an island with majestic cliffs and crystal-clear seawater.

But behind the viral photos, this island holds a series of fascinating facts rarely discussed by tourists.

Here’s a deeper, more personal, and richer portrait of Nusa Penida than what meets the eye.

1. The “Dry Island” That Actually Has Sacred Springs

Few people know that most of Nusa Penida is a dry, limestone plateau.

Yet behind this aridity lie sacred springs like Guyangan Spring and Tembeling Spring, which serve as vital sources of life for the community. Access is challenging, but their spiritual significance is profound for the local people.

2. Kelingking Known to Locals as “Karang Dawa”

Tourists know it as Kelingking Beach. But for locals, the area has long been called Karang Dawa, referring to the shape of the large cliff facing the open sea.

The name “Kelingking” actually came later, from tourists who thought the shape of the cliff resembled a pinky finger or a dinosaur.

3. The People of Penida Still Practice the Kajar-kajar Tradition

Nusa Penida has a unique tradition called kajar-kajar, a type of village protection ritual held at certain times.

This ritual is led by the village chief and is considered to be the spiritual guardian of the island, especially since the island is also known as a “niskala area” in Balinese Hindu beliefs.
