Manta Point in Nusa Penida is not just an ordinary diving spot. Its waters are a migration route and a place of “natural cleansing” for giant manta rays. 

They come to be cleaned of parasites by small fish. Because this behavior is routine, manta rays can be seen almost every day, a rarity found nowhere else.

5. Its Ecosystem is a Natural Laboratory for Scientists Worldwide

In addition to manta rays, Nusa Penida has a vast marine conservation area. 

Its coral reefs were once damaged, but are now recovering rapidly thanks to a seriously managed conservation zone. Researchers from abroad have made Penida a location for observing tropical marine restoration.

6. Tourism Infrastructure Improved by Residents Independently

Many access roads to cliffs or hidden spots were initially opened by residents themselves. 

Before going viral, several destinations such as Diamond Beach and Atuh could only be reached via small paths without stairs. Facilities were built little by little, partly from tourist contributions.

7. Penida Has a Natural Cave That Houses a Temple Inside

Pura Giri Putri is a temple hidden inside a giant cave. The entrance is small, only large enough for one person to crawl through. 

However, inside, the space is large and used as a place of worship. Tourists often miss this place because it does not look like a temple from the outside.

8. Many of the beaches are unsafe for swimming.

Although the water appears clear blue, the currents at beaches such as Kelingking, Suwehan, and Broken Beach are very strong. 

Some residents and local guides prefer to call them “panorama beaches” rather than “swimming beaches.” Their beauty is best enjoyed from the top of the cliffs, not from the waves.
