Aceh also has hundreds of gold mines. Denys Lombard, in his book The Kingdom of Aceh (1986), stated that the kingdom had 300 gold mines and could produce 24-karat gold.

Based on this fact, the colonial period revealed the existence of Sumatran gold. Dutch colonialists conducted large-scale exploration and exploitation.
They used it as a source of income in addition to spices. Local residents also processed the gold for sale.
From this activity, new entrepreneurs emerged, becoming wealthy through their gold business and ownership. They also donated the gold to Indonesia's development during the independence era.
