The World's Largest Gold Mine Is in Indonesia, Its Reserves Reach 106.2 Million Ounces

This gold mine is located in New Ireland Province, northeast of Port Moresby, with an estimated 64.1 million ounces of gold contained in the mine.

The Lihir gold reserve is located within the Luise Caldera, an extinct but still geothermally active volcanic crater.

This gold mine was 100 percent owned and operated by Lihir Gold Limited before its merger with Newcrest, both of which are from Australia.

The South Deep gold mine is the second largest gold mine in the world, located in South Africa, not far from Johannesburg, the capital of South Africa.

South Deep was formerly known as the Western Areas Gold Mine. The mine is operated and owned by Gold Felds, a company headquartered in Johannesburg. The South Deep mine is expected to produce 500,000 ounces of gold annually by 2023.
