2. PT KALTIM PRIMA COAL (KPC)
As a subsidiary of PT Bumi Resources Tbk, PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) operates one of the world's largest open-pit mines located in East Kalimantan.
KPC focuses on coal mining and marketing activities based in East Kalimantan and has been operating since 1992. With a concession area of 80,000 hectares, KPC produces approximately 70 million tons of coal annually, which is marketed both domestically and internationally.
3. PT ADARO ENERGY TBK (ADRO)
The coal company PT Adaro Energy Tbk (ADRO), owned by conglomerate Garibaldi Thohir, also recorded an increase in coal production and sales volume.
Both coal production and sales increased by 7%, reaching a total of 35.74 million tons and 34.94 million tons, respectively.
However, this increase was accompanied by a decline in coal prices, with the average selling price (ASP) falling by 19%. Garibaldi Thohir, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of ADRO, acknowledged the challenges associated with fluctuating thermal and metallurgical coal prices. However, he remains optimistic about the resilience of the Adaro Group's performance.
4. PT BAYAN RESOURCES TBK (BYAN)
Another major coal mine in Indonesia is PT Bayan Resource Tbk. This company, owned by Low Tuck Kwong, also recorded a 6.22% increase in production in the first half of 2024. Its production reached 25.6 million tons, up from 24.1 million tons in the same period the previous year.
5. PT GOLDEN ENERGY MINES, TBK. (GEMS)
PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (GEMS), a member of the Sinarmas Group, reported total production of 24.8 million tons during the first half of 2024. GEMS Corporate Secretary, Sudin, stated that this figure reached 49.6% of GEMS's annual production target for 2024, which is 50 million tons.
6. PT BUKIT ASAM TBK (PTBA)
PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) recorded coal production of 18.8 million tons during the first half of 2024.
The state-owned coal mine achieved a record-high sales for the six-month period. Sales reached 20.1 million tons, a 15% increase compared to the first half of 2023.
