1. Living in Stilt Houses Above the Water

The houses of the Bajo tribe are built above the sea on wooden stilts, blending in with the clear shallow waters. 

From a distance, their settlements look like exotic floating villages. In some places, these houses are connected by small wooden bridges, forming a self-sufficient and close-knit community.

They feel safer living on the sea than on land. The sea is not only a place to make a living, but also a “backyard” where children play, learn to swim, and occasionally help their parents go fishing.

2. Fishing from an Early Age

From an early age, Bajo children are accustomed to fishing. Many of them learn to row, fish, and dive even before they can read. 

These activities are not just entertainment, but part of learning about life. Adult men usually spend their time at sea catching fish, squid, or sea cucumbers. 

Meanwhile, the women take care of the house, prepare the catch, and occasionally dive to look for shellfish or seaweed.
