Here are three mountains in the world that are being sought by gold miners:

1. Grasberg Gold Mine

In the Jayawijaya Mountains, Papua, Indonesia, lies an area containing vast amounts of gold, called the Grasberg gold mine.

Discovered in 1988, Grasberg is one of the largest gold mines in the world.

Grasberg is operated by PT Freeport Indonesia, a subsidiary of Freeport Max. The Grasberg mining operation consists of an open-pit mine and four underground mines: DOZ, DMLZ, Big Gossan, and Grasberg Block Cave (GBC).

The Grasberg gold mine is estimated to contain 30.2 million ounces (Moz) of gold. In 2018, the Grasberg mine produced 2.69 Moz of gold, processing 178,100 tons of ore per day.

Ongoing expansion at the mine is planned to increase production to 240,000 tons.

2. Castle Mountain

According to NS Energy Business, the Castle Mountain Gold Mine is located at the southern end of the Castle Mountains, California, United States.

The project area is located in a high plateau surrounded by the Castle Mountains National Monument and the Mojave National Preserve.

The Castle Mountain Gold Mine is estimated to have gold reserves of 3.6 million Moz. The mine produced more than 1 million Moz of gold between 1992 and 2004, before production was halted due to low gold prices.
