King Siliwangi ruled the Hindu-based Padjajaran Kingdom from 1482 to 1521 CE.
Prabu Siliwangi's name became famous for leading the Padjajaran Kingdom to the peak of its glory.
King Siliwangi's real name was Jaya Dewata and was born in 1401 in Kawali Galuh, or what is now the Ciamis area.
He was also known as Prabu Dewataprana Sri Baduga Maharaja, as recorded in several inscriptions.

The title Prabu Siliwangi itself comes from the words "silih" and "wangi," a hereditary title given to several leaders for their succession and upholding the name of the Padjajaran Kingdom.
The title "Siliwangi" was also once bestowed upon Niskala Wastu Kancana, the grandfather of Sri Baduga Maharaja.
However, over time, the title "Prabu Siliwangi" became more associated with Sri Baduga Maharaja.
In the Batutulis Inscription, Prabu Siliwangi was crowned both as king of the Sunda Kingdom and as king of the Galuh Kingdom.
This Sunda-Galuh Kingdom is now known as the Padjajaran Kingdom, under the rule of Prabu Siliwangi.
