Chinese National Steals 774 Kilograms of Gold from Indonesia

Chinese citizens steal gold in Indonesia.--

INTERNATIONAL, RBTVDISWAY.ID - The Civil Servant Investigation Team (PPNS) of the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal has completed the investigation into suspect YH, a Chinese national, and his associates who conducted illegal gold ore mining using mining methods in a Mining Business Permit (IUP) area.

In this case, suspect YH acted as the leader of the underground mining operation in Pemuatan Batu Hamlet, Nanga Kelampaim Village, Tumbang Titi District, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan, from February to May 2024.

This unauthorized mining activity resulted in state losses due to the loss of approximately 774,200 grams of gold and silver reserves and approximately 937,700 grams of silver reserves.

The investigation by the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal's Civil Servant Officers (PPNS) was declared complete with the receipt of the investigation file and its declaration of completeness by the General Prosecutor (JPU) in Jakarta through Letter P-21 Number B-2687/Eku.1/07/2024 dated July 5, 2024.

The next step was for the PPNS of the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal to hand over the suspect's detention and the mining crime evidence to the Public Prosecutor of the Ketapang District Attorney's Office, accompanied by the Public Prosecutor of the Attorney General's Office.

The Director of Engineering and Environment for Mineral and Coal, Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the PPNS of the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, under the coordination and supervision of the PPNS Supervisory Bureau of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri), who have carried out their law enforcement duties effectively.

"This law enforcement effort is a shared achievement and needs to be implemented in other locations requiring law enforcement in the future," said Sunindyo in Jakarta on July 10, 2024.

The efforts of the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal's PPNS and their team are also supported by the Ketapang District Attorney's Office, which has promised to immediately refer this case to trial.

"The Attorney General's Office supports the law enforcement carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' PPNS. The Ketapang District Attorney's Office will then refer this case to the court for immediate trial and legal certainty," said Anthoni Nainggolan, Head of the Ketapang District Attorney's Office at the time.

Anthoni added that law enforcement in mining will continue to be carried out in collaboration with relevant agencies as a manifestation of the synergy between law enforcement institutions in Indonesia.

"Collaborative management is crucial, with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police, and the Attorney General's Office, forming an inseparable unit. This is our collaborative effort to enforce the law against illegal mining crimes," Anthoni concluded.
