"In 1906, mining activities in the Lebong Tandai area were carried out by a Dutch company called Mijnbouw Maatschppij Simau. This mining operation proceeded smoothly without significant resistance from the local population due to an agreement between the Dutch East Indies government and the local government," the study stated.
Mijnbouw Maatschapij Simau exported hundreds of tons of gold and silver between 1908 and 1941. The gold was mined and made into bars weighing 25 kilograms each.

"The gold was packed into crates and transported by lorry. After being unloaded from the lorry, the gold was taken to the port for transport by ship," the study stated.
Due to its control of mining resources and past exploitation, Lebong became one of the main exporters of gold and silver in the Dutch East Indies.
By 1936, this control of mining resources and massive exploitation had made Lebong one of the main exporters of gold and silver in the Dutch East Indies.
In 1936, gold from Lebong was valued at 3,538,000 guilders, representing 94.5 percent of all exports from the Dutch East Indies.
