A mining company discovered an estimated 2 billion tons of gold reserves at the Onto Mine in Hu'u District, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province.
This discovery caused a stir in Indonesia. The 2 billion ton gold reserve was discovered by the company holding the 7th generation Contract of Work (KK), PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (PT STM).
PT STM has held the Onto mining KK since 1998, meaning the company has been exploring for 24 years.
The company's latest report, released at the end of 2022, stated that exploration activities in the area are still ongoing, primarily to ensure the resource status is improved.

Previously, STM President Director Bede Evans stated that the Onto mineral resource potential is part of the Hu'u Project owned by PT STM, the holder of the 7th Generation Contract of Work. The project was signed by the Indonesian Government on February 19, 1998.
PT STM is 80% owned by Vale S.A. through Eastern Star Resources Pte Ltd, and the remaining 20% is owned by mining company PT Antam Tbk, a state-owned mining holding company under MIND ID.

The mineral resources in the Onto area, Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), geologically indicate a gold deposit type that could potentially hold significant total mineral resources. These are primarily gold and copper, with a potential of 2 billion tons.
The area has a total indicated mineral resource potential of 1.5 billion tons, grading 0.96% copper and 0.58 grams/ton gold, and a total inferred mineral resource potential of 1 billion tons, grading 0.7% copper and 0.4 g/ton gold.
