In Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, There's a Gold Village, Buried with 40 Million Tons of Gold

INTERNATIONAL, RBTVDISWAY.ID – Central Kalimantan, located in the central part of the island of Borneo, Indonesia, plays a vital role in the national mining industry, particularly gold mining.

Although the region is better known for coal and copper mining, there is also gold mining activity, particularly through large-scale commercial operations under development.

Since the 1980s, illegal mining activities have been part of the landscape in Kapuas Tengah District, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan.

Nearly 90 percent of the population in this district is involved in illegal mining activities, either directly or by leasing their land for illegal use.

One prominent focal point in Central Kalimantan is Pujon Village. This village, located approximately 190 kilometers from Palangkaraya City, is a prime example of prosperity.

Pujon Village, located in Kapuas Tengah District, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan Province, has become the center of attention as an area known for its intensive gold mining activities.

As a result, Pujon Village is often nicknamed the "Golden Village," as nearly 99% of its residents earn their living through gold mining.

Although the potential gold reserves in the Pujon region are estimated to be an astonishing 40 million tons, mining is still carried out using relatively simple methods by the local community.

Once they discover a location suspected of being rich in gold, miners dig until they reach a layer of sand.

The soil is then extracted using a special extraction machine connected to another machine specifically designed to filter the sand with water, allowing for more efficient separation of the gold from other materials.

During this filtration stage, the gold ore is separated from the other materials.

With each extraction effort, miners have the potential to obtain valuable gold ore, estimated to weigh around 1 to 2 ounces, if they are lucky.
