In addition to gold, this location is also a major source of silver and copper. Gold deposits were discovered in this area in 2008, coinciding with the start of construction for the gold mine.

"Production is planned to run until 2033," as part of the contract of work agreed with the Indonesian government.

The mine area covers 1,303 square kilometers. To support mining activities, various facilities have been built near the Trans-Sumatra highway.

Currently, there are two operational areas using the open-pit method, and development for a third pit is also underway.

At this location, there is a factory that processes gold ore using the conventional carbon-in-leach method.

With adequate infrastructure, the mining process is expected to run efficiently and sustainably.

PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, better known as Antam, obtains the majority of its gold and silver production from underground mines located in Pongkor, West Java, and Cibaliung, Banten. Currently, both locations have entered the post-mining phase.

"Indications of gold deposits in Pongkor were discovered by the Geomin Unit in 1981, and production began in 1994 after obtaining a permit in 1992," the company report explained.

The Pongkor gold mine has three main veins: Ciguha, Kubang Cicau, and Ciurug.

During the mining process, Antam applies the conventional cut and fill stoping method to the Ciguha and Kubang Cicau gold veins.

Meanwhile, for the Ciurug gold vein, the company has been using the mechanized cut and fill method, using equipment such as hydraulic jumbo drills and load haul dumps (LHDs) since 2000.
