5. Wedang uwuh

The drink originating from Yogyakarta has a sweet and warm taste, accompanied by a refreshing aroma of spices. In the Javanese language, "uwuh" means trash, which is interpreted as a drink containing leaves and spices resembling trash. 

This signature Indonesian beverage is rich in antioxidants, making it refreshing, relieving indigestion, and improving blood circulation. Interestingly, wedang uwuh has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and it has also entered the international market as one of the creative economy products, from Canada and Jeddah to Vietnam and Nigeria.

6. Es Dawet

Dawet is a traditional Javanese drink that has been around since the 10th century. According to historical records, this beverage originally came from the Jabung area in Ponorogo and had an initial colorless appearance. 

It was only in the 15th century that Dawet entered the Demak region and was modified by adding green coloring. Since then, the popularity of Dawet has spread throughout Java Island. 

The main ingredients of Dawet itself are glutinous rice flour and pandan leaf extract used as the green colorant. Typically, dawet is served with crushed palm sugar, a pinch of salt, and coconut milk.

7. Bandrek

This warm beverage from West Java is very famous. Wedang Bandrek is made from boiled ginger water mixed with cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, pandan leaves, kaffir lime leaves, bay leaves, and black pepper. To add the perfect sweetness, you can add palm sugar to the boiled water. 

Once it has boiled, you can serve it with condensed milk, sesame seeds, and roasted peanuts. Serve it while it's still warm.
